Day 9 - Byebye Baby

So since my last post things have only gotten worse and it was obviously dying off. I finally got some proper advice and it turns out it was all due to nutrient burn. I double checked my soil packet and in the fine print it does mention nutrients - SHIT!

So I quickly dug up some plain ol' soil from my yard, it's rather dry and fine. I dug up my sick lil guy and carefully replanted him in the soil, I don't have high hopes but fingers crossed he somehow makes a recovery.

I watered the new soil and placed him in the dark for a few hours, when I checked on it again it was pretty close to being completely dead :(

I've started to germinate another seed just incase this one doesn't make it, which is going to put my blog behind for a little while.

  2. Aww that sucks i hope it doesnt totally die off! When i tried growing a while back i lost a plant to nutrient burn. Check out grow forums around the web, they helped me out a bunch the next time i tried growing.

  4. I'm fairly new to growing but have a couple grows under my belt now. One of the best pieces of advice about soil I ever got was to use FoxFarm soil. This stuff is great for herb because it has a pretty neutral pH. They have one called Ocean Forest I highly recommend.

When you say 100watt CFL, is that a TRUE 100watt or 100watt equivilent (what you will find in most store) meaning it's suppose to be as bright as a regular incandescent. If the latter, that is not enough light at all. It might be fine when it's a sprout but you will soon need a lot more. I'd suggest at least 4 -5 normal cool CFLs.

You probably don't need distilled water unless your tap has a real bad pH or lots of particles.

During veg I only give nutes as needed and that has worked great.

Following, hope to see you get to a harvest!

Thanks for the advise buddy. I need to wait a bit before I can pick up some new soil as I only have a motorcycle and it's hard to throw a bag of soil on the back of that.
    I'm using true 100W CFL.

I got another seed germinating at the moment so if all goes well it should be back to where this one died in about a week then I can continue with this blog.
